Abandon Ship at Kirkistown.
24th Mar 08Easter Monday at Kirkistown had all the ingredients for a great days racing
but for reasons only known to the club officals the racing was abandon.
You have to respect the reasons especially in the interests of safety but I know riders like Michael Laverty and Cameron Donald where very disappointed.
the crowd had no choice but to leave the circuit having not even seen a completed superbike race.
Most of the crowd had come to see Laverty Donald Anstey Amor etc and I cannot understand why a time table should meet the needs of the paying fans.
Much better to have a Superbike race - 250GP- Supersport- 125GP- Superbike - Supersport - then all the other classes - this would also help the traffic flow as many fans would leave after the main races.
Anyhow that is for another day but I personally thought that some of the local Irish Superbike Championship riders where pushing very hard to beat the BSB boys - I know they where losing vital points but getting a third or a fourth would have counted as a win when the points are counted up at the end of the season.
Was very impressed with the manners of the gate officals who wished everyone a enjoyable day and also the Belfast & District Club who
did their best to put on a professional show but it will be interesting to learn the reason why the captain for the Easter Monday Kirkistown races gave the order to abandon ship!!
